Ayurvedic perspective on headache
In Ayurveda, headaches are often associated with an imbalance in the body’s doshas (Vata, Pitta, and Kapha). Each type of headache corresponds to different dosha imbalances:
- Vata headache: Caused by stress, anxiety, or a hectic lifestyle. These headaches are characterised by a throbbing pain and are often accompanied by insomnia and restlessness.
- Pitta headache: Resulting from excessive heat or anger. These headaches cause intense, burning pain and are often accompanied by redness and sensitivity to light.
- Kapha headache: Triggered by congestion and sluggishness. These headaches cause a heavy, dull pain and are often accompanied by a feeling of fullness in the head.

- Nasyam (nasal therapy): Medicated oils administered through the nasal passages to clear sinus congestion and balance the doshas. Nasyam therapy for headaches is very helpful.
