About Abhyangam full body massage

Abhyangam in Sanskrit means a complete oil massage. Abhyangam is an Ayurvedic full body massage with dosha-specific herbal oils. This warm oil massage helps treat pain, stiffness or numbness and other ‘vata’-related diseases (as well as insomnia, fatigue etc.) Abhyangam, a basic whole body oil massage, is advised to be done on a daily basis as a ‘dinacharya’ (daily routine).

What is the process of Abhyangam full body massage?

Lukewarm medicated oil is applied over your body followed by gentle soothing massage by our trained therapists. The strokes are applied in a synchronized manner and the pressure varies with the physical condition of the individual. As per classical Ayurvedic teaching, the process is repeated in all seven positions to include the whole body. The rhythmic massage helps to relieve pain & stiffness from joints & muscles. Medicated oils helps quick removal of metabolic wastes and is selected based on your body constitution as well as the season. This can be advised by our consultant. After the oil therapy, a steam bath helps to improve efficacy.

How long is the treatment?

The duration of the Abhyangam massage generally lasts 60 minutes, but may vary from individual to individual. Treatment is advised as a full course for 7, 10 or 14 days, depending on the individual’s condition.

What are the benefits?

Abhyangam massage acts on your whole body at both the physical and mental level – balancing the doshas. It relieves stiffness of your joints and muscles and tones up the muscles. It stimulates circulation and relieves pain or any anxiety and fatigue you may have. It is found to be very effective in the management of diseases like osteoarthritis, spondylitis, rheumatoid arthritis low back pain, muscle stiffness etc. It can also be used to treat some sports injuries & muscular spasms.
